Election Death Jam 2005

HOUSTON – Terrorize your minds with the Young Republic's second event on October 21, 2005, The Election Death Jam 2005. The Young Republic is a conceptual organization, with a commitment to bringing people of all mediums and artistic outlets together for the purpose of enamoring creative minds. The Election Death Jam 2005 will host an art exhibition, a music show, the release of a literary magazine, and a spooky election raffle for $100 worth of free drinks!

It is the stated goal of the Young Republic to promote progressive thoughts and artistic expressions, and through the malleability of the organizational framework, do so in fresh and exciting ways. The conceptual structure of the Young Republic is not entirely dissimilar from the art that it promotes, changing to fit into the same progressive mind frame of the artists it exhibits. All coordinated events are prepared in hopes of creating a forum for the exchange of creative and invigorating discussion through the exhibition of visual art.

For the October 21st event, the Young Republic’s visual art coordinator, Jenny Schlief, has selected visual artists from New York and Texas, focusing on a conceptual undertaking that this particular event demands. This show features works from Peter Caine (NY) ByKini Collaborative (Houston), Hope Perkins (Austin) and Jocelyn Shipley (NY). All works focus on certain relevant themes of uncertainty, suspense, horror-lore, and cynicism directed at American society. Musical coordinator, Will Walsh, has hand picked a variety of musical talent from Houston including the gorerific performances of Flying Fortress, digi-spook set of Broke Legs/Disco Duo and the scare-a-tronic sounds of Mystery Flavor, with DJ’s Stiletto and Cee-Plus freaking you out in between sets. Released that evening will be a one-run magazine of short stories entitled How to Succeed at Tyranny in Four Easy Steps, edited by literary coordinator, Gene Morgan. Contributing writers include Darby Larson, Tao Lin, Christopher Monks, and Jensen Whelan, with illustratrations by artist Raymond Uhlir.

Thanks to Spacetaker.org and ArtStar for their sponsorship. Cover is $7 and $5 with costume. Dean’s is located on 316 Main St, in Downtown Houston. Art reception from 8-10 pm. Musical entertainment begins at 10:00pm continues until 2:00am.
